John Freese is an artist who specializes in oil paintings and large mural commissions. He works out of his studio on the banks of Eagle Creek. John rceived a B.A. in Art from San Francisco State University and a Masters degree in Art Education from Lewis and Clark College. He hs been a member of the Artback since its inception. He has been lead artist on three Artback mural projects, "Early Trains of Estacada" and "The Long House Mural", and "Fishing the Celilo Falls", his most recent won completed the summer of 2010 on the Estacada Harvest Market. John has been an art educator for over 30 years. He has taught his students art appreciation and many other art experiences in grades first through high school. John has taught art education classes to college level students at Concordia University in Portland. Having recently retired from the Centennial Scool District, John is eager to devote more time to painting in his studio. His work is influenced by the French Impressionist, American Realist, and Abstract Expressionist movements. His murals are painted in a representational style which often reflects historical scenes of the Pacific Northwest. John's work also includes landscapes, figurative work, and mythical themes. His recent show, "Landscapes From Near and Far", included scenes of Eagle Creek, the Hood River Valley, the island of Kauai, and France.
John is married to Angela Freese and they have two children, Jennifer and Cisco.
John is available to paint commissions in oil, or large murals. He has worked individually and with teams of artists and art students on large mural projects in many schools and public spaces in the Portland area.
